The importance of a regular meditation practice.

I have to confess that I have let my practice slide a little. I have all the best excuses to justify this… too busy, too much on etc. Or, I would promise myself that I will get to it later in the week and I will spend extra time meditating. Ha! Who am I kidding? Only myself, I never get to it and the cycle continues.

Research has shown, stress can cause damage to every part of your body.  Meditation when performed regularly not only works on your physical body but your mental outlook, allowing you to develop a more positive outlook.

A simple meditation technique is to focus on your breath. Sit straight, in a comfortable position your eyes can be either open or closed.  Follow your breath as your breath in through your nostrils, through your lungs and down into your belly.  Hold for a count of 4, feeling the tension build in your body.  Then release the breath, following the breath back out through your body.  As you release the breath visualise yourself relaxing. Repeat the process.

You will lose track and your mind will wander, when this happens just gently bring your thoughts back to focusing on your breath.

Meditation is a practice, and with some practice over time you will get better.  Even 5 minutes per day over time can transforms physical and emotional pains, recharges your energy and reduces feeling stress.
